Juventus Responds to Payment Order for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Outstanding Wages

Following a directive to settle Cristiano Ronaldo’s overdue earnings, Italian powerhouse Juventus has issued an official statement on the matter.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has mandated the Serie A club to compensate Ronaldo for his unpaid wages.

This decision stemmed from a disagreement over salary reductions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ronaldo, who now plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Super League, claimed before the court that Juventus owed him €19.5 million ($20.81 million) in unpaid wages.

As per the court’s ruling, Juventus will have to pay Ronaldo nearly half of the requested sum, arriving at a settlement of €9.8 million.

In response to the verdict, Juventus promptly released a statement, affirming that, “The arbitration tribunal has directed Juve to fulfill half of the sum demanded by the 39-year-old Portuguese forward.

“They have partially approved the appeal put forth by [Ronaldo]… acknowledging Juventus’ contractual liability stemming from unsuccessful negotiations and instructing the defendant to make a payment of roughly €9.8 million.”

Furthermore, Juventus has indicated their intent to challenge the decision in their statement, stating:
“The company, along with its legal advisors, is currently evaluating the arbitration board’s ruling, maintaining all rights to further evaluations and actions in defense of its interests.”
