On September 13, 1993, on the grounds of the White House (Washington DC), the Declaration of Principles on Provisions Related to Provisional Self-Government, known as the Oslo I Accords, was signed between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
That day, certain aspects were agreed upon, such as mutual recognition between both governments, an interim Palestinian self-government, and even elections were set within 10 months to create a Palestinian Council. The Declaration established that the agreement entered into force one month after its signature.
However, the current situation is far from that reality. To this day, the war in Gaza continues. Despite the ceasefire in October 2025, at least 1,352 people have died and another 4,661 have been injured. The blockade of food and basic needs also continues. It is estimated that 94% of the population needs housing, while 58% face critical or catastrophic needs.
Twelve Western countries (including Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden and Ireland) announced on September 8, 2026 coordinated measures to pressure Israel over the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, considered illegal under international law.
The closest is the parliamentary elections on October 27, 2026 that will be held in Israel.

Today, 33 years have passed since a historic moment of hope for millions of people. Isaac Rabin, Prime Minister of Israel, and Yasir Arafat, leader of the Palestinian Authority, shook hands in Washington on September 13, 1993, after signing the Declaration of Principles for the autonomy of Gaza. In three decades they have managed to go back to genocide.
We boomers grew up deceived, firmly believing that the worst had happened, it had even happened to our grandparents. The evolution of History could only go in the right direction.
The 21st century will be humanistic or it will not be, the philosophers told us. And now we have an expert in artificial intelligence who gives us just 5 more years of existence. While the killer robot arrives, we will be here, enjoying a hand-made radio, with the natural intelligence – much or little – that we received in the genome draw.
