The young talent from Bayern Munich, who has already represented the Dutch at the U-17 level, has expressed his dream of playing for the senior Dutch team. FIFA rules prohibit a player who has represented a senior national team from playing for another country.

The Nigeria Football Federation, led by head coach Gernot Rohr, has been monitoring the 18-year-old for a while and intended to entice him to join the Super Eagles. However, they may need to reconsider their efforts following Zirkzee’s recent comments.

When asked if he has considered participating in the Euros competition for the Netherlands, Zirkzee stated;

“No, I’m not really working on that yet. I’m not a regular based player here, so I don’t think I should think about it then, but I have also seen how fast things can go, so of course, it is very secretly in the back of your mind,” the forward told VTBL

“Oranje is a dream and as a young footballer I think it makes sense to dream about it.”

Recently, Chelsea players Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori rejected Nigeria to represent England.
