Man electrocuted in Abuja suburb while trying to fix faulty transformer fuse

The unfortunate incident occurred in Anagada community, a suburb of Abuja, where a man named Yakubu Alhassan was electrocuted while attempting to repair a malfunctioning fuse in a transformer.

Despite claims from residents that the deceased, also known as Yakubu NEPA, was an employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), the company’s Public Relations Officer, Fadipe Oyebode, clarified that he had no affiliation with the organization.

According to a resident, Ibrahim Yahaya, the incident took place on a Friday afternoon around 12:47 pm. The man was known for frequently addressing issues with the transformer when the electricity supply was disrupted due to overload.

Fadipe Oyebode highlighted that the 500 KVA transformer site is secured with a locked gate, indicating that the deceased gained unauthorized access to the distribution substation. The circumstances surrounding the tragic death are still unclear, and investigations are ongoing, with AEDC and regulatory authorities actively involved.

The deceased was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs, and many have expressed their condolences for his passing, including Ahmed Kabeer, who mourned Yakubu’s death on Facebook, acknowledging his volunteer service to the Anagada community in handling electrical matters.
