Joint Admission and Matriculation Board reports 1.94 million students sat for 2024 exams

According to the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the 2024 examinations had a total of 1.94 million candidates across the country.

During his visit to Computer Based Test (CBT) centers in Kaduna, Oloyede mentioned that by the end of the day’s examinations, there would be fewer than 100,000 candidates left in various states like Lagos and Benue.

Emphasizing the efficiency of JAMB’s operations, Oloyede noted that the biometric capturing and candidate clearance processes were significantly accelerated, improving the overall exercise.

He highlighted ongoing efforts by JAMB to enhance and streamline the examination process for a smoother and more effective experience, citing increased automation as a key factor.

Expressing concern over examination malpractice, Oloyede strongly discouraged cheating, stating that it ultimately doesn’t benefit anyone.

Addressing prevalent issues of impersonation, he pointed out cases of candidates using multiple National Identification Numbers (NIN), a matter he intends to raise with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

In tackling impersonation challenges, Oloyede assured that JAMB has the necessary tools and technology to detect and prevent such fraudulent activities.

While commending the cooperation of parents, Oloyede appreciated the absence of disruptions by parents at examination centers this year, unlike previous instances where their presence caused disturbances.

Reflecting on the overall performance of examination centers, he noted that out of 775 centers nationwide, only a few experienced issues primarily due to inadequate preparation.

Encouraging affected candidates to remain patient and await subsequent sessions, Oloyede reassured that the examination questions are tailored individually for each candidate to ensure fairness.
