Israel’s Call for Diplomatic Sanctions on Iran

On Tuesday, the Israeli government urged 32 countries to impose sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and their missile program.

Following Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on Israel using drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles over the weekend, the Israeli military, with support from the United States and other allies, successfully intercepted 99% of the aerial threats. The attack resulted in minor damage, mainly to a military base in the southern part of the country.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz revealed his diplomatic efforts to counter Iran.

Addressing the issue, he stated, “This morning, I have reached out to 32 countries and engaged in discussions with numerous foreign ministers and prominent figures globally, urging for sanctions against the Iranian missile project and the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity.”

While Katz did not disclose the specific nations he requested to impose sanctions on the Revolutionary Guards, it is worth noting that the United States has already designated them as a terrorist organization and they are under EU sanctions.

In response to Iran’s weekend attack, which was retaliation for an air strike on the Iranian consulate resulting in casualties among the Revolutionary Guards, Israeli officials have pledged to take action against Iran.

Expressing his concern, Katz emphasized, “Iran’s actions must be halted immediately to prevent further escalation.”
