IPOB Sets May 30 as Day of Remembrance, Calls for Sit-at-Home Action

Across the Southeast, IPOB has announced a sit-at-home day on May 30 to honor the Biafran heroes who sacrificed their lives during the civil war from 1967 to 1970.

In a statement by Emma Powerful, the spokesperson of IPOB, all sectors including schools, government offices, private businesses, banks, transportation and market unions are urged to suspend operations on Thursday.

The statement issued by Powerful stated, “On Thursday, May 30, 2024, IPOB, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi OkwuChukwu Kanu, designates a sit-at-home day in Biafra Land for Biafrans, supporters, freedom advocates, and residents alike to commemorate our fallen heroes and heroines. This day serves as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our existence amidst the tragic Nigerian-Biafran war and the ongoing struggles.

Every year, May 30 marks a day of solemn remembrance for Biafrans, dedicated to honoring our fallen heroes and heroines. Biafrans are requested to observe a sit-at-home protest in honor of our departed heroes who fought for our survival in the face of the devastating consequences of Nigeria’s forced unity that claimed numerous Biafran lives. Biafrans residing outside the region are also encouraged to join in this commemorative action by limiting their activities on this significant day.

Following these directives, all educational institutions, government offices, private enterprises, financial institutions, transportation services, market associations, and individuals are instructed to halt their operations as a mark of respect for our heroes and heroines on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Essential personnel such as nurses, doctors, ambulance services, hospitals, and medical staff are exempted from this mandate as they continue their critical services on that day.

Biafrans are urged to utilize this occasion for prayers to Chukwu Okike Abiama in honor of our departed heroes and for divine intervention in achieving Biafra’s independence from the oppressive Nigerian system.

The Heroes Remembrance Day serves as a reminder for Biafrans to pay tribute to the courageous heroes who fell victim to the genocidal war against the Igbo community from 1967 to 1970. Biafrans residing in the Northern and Western regions of Nigeria are also encouraged to stay indoors in solidarity with this solemn remembrance of our fallen heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for our survival.”
