Investigation Launched into Patient’s Death at Osun Hospital

Commencing an inquiry, Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo delves into the circumstances surrounding the demise of a patient following a disturbance in the female ward.

Reportedly, sources within the hospital suggested that the unfortunate passing of the female patient took place amidst turmoil incited by an unidentified man.

An individual named Rasak, a witness who conversed with NewsNow, recounted the event unfolding late Monday in the female ward of the hospital.

Detailing the incident, Rasak mentioned how the man, upon receiving news of the apparent loss of his mother, succumbed to overwhelming emotions, leading to unrest in the ward.

Describing the upheaval, Rasak stated, “Upon learning of his mother’s demise, he spiraled into distress, causing a scene within the ward where other patients were also present.”

An additional source, a nurse present during the event, disclosed that the disruptive behavior stemmed from the man’s grief over his mother’s passing, resulting in chaos among the admitted patients.

Responding to inquiries, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Peter Olaitan, acknowledged the disturbance caused by the man, which unfortunately led to a patient’s death.

In a message to our correspondent, Olaitan clarified, “A disturbance ensued in the ward triggered by a man grieving the loss of his sick mother, resulting in the unfortunate demise of another individual.

“The deceased individual was not reliant on life support, and the man causing the disturbance did not physically harm them. Investigations are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.”

This incident follows a previous occurrence in April 2022 when certain individuals, presumed to be graduates, assaulted hospital staff at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital following a patient’s demise.
