Insights from Kanu Nwankwo on the new Super Eagles kit

Former Nigerian and Arsenal football legend, Kanu Nwankwo, expressed his views on the new Nigerian jersey created by Nike for 2020.

The sportswear giants revealed the new Super Eagles jerseys in New York on February 5, sparking widespread conversation. The home jersey drew inspiration from traditional agbada, while the away kit was inspired by Onaism.

In a recent interview with Goal, Kanu, who represented Nigeria 87 times, was asked about his opinion on the new Super Eagles kit. Responding, the former Super Eagles captain expressed his liking for the new jersey but also raised a question about why the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) did not involve former internationals in the decision-making process for the kits.

“I do like the jersey but in the future when they are doing things like this, ex-internationals should be carried along in order to feel our own opinion,” Kanu told Goal. “If not, we will accept whatever is thrown at us even if we don’t like it.”

The Super Eagles squad is expected to don the new jerseys during the qualifying campaigns for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 World Cup.
