Insight from Mobi Oparaku on Potential Super Eagles Coach Selection

In the eyes of former Super Eagles player Mobi Oparaku, Emmanuel Amuneke would have been a remarkable choice for the Super Eagles coaching role. Both Finidi and Amuneke submitted applications for the position, with Finidi ultimately being selected.

Finidi is taking over from José Peseiro, a Portuguese coach who departed after his contract expired in March.

Oparaku expressed his belief to the New Telegraph that Amuneke would have been a solid selection. He also voiced his support for George as he takes the helm of the 2013 AFCON-winning team.

Oparaku remarked, “The NFF’s decision to not consider Amuneke as a local coach caught me by surprise. Personally, I regarded him as an outstanding choice and would have personally backed him if I held the reins. Pairing Amuneke with Finidi could have yielded positive results, potentially marking a significant moment for Nigerian football.”

He added, “While we will continue to support Finidi and the Nigerian team, I can’t help but wonder what a coaching duo of Amuneke and Finidi could have accomplished for Nigerian football in recent years.”
