Initiation of Hisba Bill Amendment by Yobe Assembly

An expeditionary evaluation of a bill aiming to amend the Hisbah Commission law has been undertaken by the Yobe State House of Assembly.

After extensive discussions by members on Tuesday, the bill, initially presented by the executive branch, successfully passed its second reading on the House floor.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, spearheaded the debate on the bill, noting that certain sections of the Hisbah bill, previously assented by the governor, necessitated amendment and was consequently referred back to the House.

In proposing the amendment, the lawmaker highlighted that the bill aims to segregate the responsibilities of the executive chairman’s office from that of the state Commandant of the Hisbah Commission when enacted.

Encouraging support for the bill, the Majority Leader urged fellow members to rally behind the cause.

During the session, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, directed the bill to the House standing committee on Justice and Religious Affairs for further legislative processing.
