For the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the ultimate roster of candidates. Political parties are authorized to commence public campaigning from Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the Commission revealed. The official campaigning period will conclude at midnight on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
According to a statement from Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC, there are a total of 17 political parties participating in the election. Out of these, 16 candidates are male, and one candidate is female.
The finalized list has been made available at the INEC office in Edo State and has also been posted on the Commission’s website and social media platforms for public access.
Olumekun remarked, “The Commission is delighted to announce the circulation of the conclusive list of candidates for the Edo State Governorship Election. Subsequent to the initial primaries, the Commission publicized the personal details of the Governorship candidates and their running mates in our State and Local Government offices in Edo State.
“A total of seventeen (17) political parties are presenting candidates in the election; sixteen (16) are male and one (1) is female. The final list, which also provides details on the candidates’ age, educational qualifications, and disabilities, has been published at our office in Edo State and uploaded on our website and social media platforms for public perusal.
“Following the publication of the final list of candidates for the Edo State Governorship Election, the subsequent step is the start of electioneering campaign.
“Consequently, Political Parties are now allowed to commence public campaigns from Wednesday, April 24, 2024, ending at midnight on Thursday, September 19, 2024, as specified in items 8 and 12 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election,” excerpts from the statement revealed.
