Implementation of New Minimum Wage Will Be Prioritized, According to Gov Sule

Assurances from Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State indicate that governors are fully in support of the implementation of the new minimum wage for public workers. Dismissing any claims suggesting otherwise, he emphasized that the governors are cooperating with the federal government on this crucial issue.

Following a meeting with Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the State House in Abuja, Governor Sule discussed various topics, including the security situation in Nasarawa State. He expressed the state’s strong readiness for increased investment and focus on agriculture.

Since 2019, Nasarawa has been consistently paying the current minimum wage of N30,000, along with enacting promotions, gratuities, and additional benefits for its workforce. Governor Sule highlighted the significance of the committee established by the Federal Government to address the minimum wage matter, reiterating that the governors are patiently awaiting the committee’s findings.

Addressing the welfare of workers, Governor Sule mentioned that special allowances, such as hazard pay, are being provided to medical staff in the state. He emphasized the governors’ commitment to ensuring fair compensation for employees.

On the issue of security, Governor Sule reassured the public that Nasarawa State remains a safe haven for investments and agriculture. He credited the improved security situation in the state to infrastructural developments, including the construction of major roads and the establishment of a military super-camp.

Furthermore, Governor Sule highlighted Nasarawa’s achievements in agriculture, particularly its leadership in sesame farming and impressive rankings in yam, cassava, and rice production nationwide.

Touching on upcoming events, Governor Sule mentioned discussions with Vice-President Shettima regarding the inauguration of a lithium factory scheduled for Friday. He expressed hopes for President Bola Tinubu’s attendance at the ceremony, indicating the significance of the factory’s inauguration to the state.
