Imo: 5 vandals die in pipeline explosion

The Obitti community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State was rocked by an explosion that resulted in the tragic deaths of five vandals, as confirmed by the Imo State Police Command. ASP Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesman, informed the media about the incident and stated that the explosion took place on Tuesday. He explained that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, has assembled a team to investigate the cause of the explosion and to apprehend the culprits who fled the scene. The police are collaborating with other security agencies to identify those responsible for this act of economic sabotage. The vandals were attempting their usual pipeline vandalism when the unfortunate incident occurred. The police are focused on preventing similar acts of vandalism in the future. This incident follows a similar explosion in April 2022, where approximately 100 individuals lost their lives at an illegal oil refining site in the same region. Additionally, on May 4th of the same year, two individuals lost their lives in a suspected bomb attack on the Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Ltd. oil facility in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo.
