Illegal local refinery discovered by NSCDC in Rivers State

An illegal local refining site was recently uncovered by the Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in a dense forest in Nembe/Akwa area of Etche Local Government, Rivers State.

According to a statement released by CSC Babawale Afolabi, National Public Relations Officer at the National Headquarters in Abuja:

Acting on credible intelligence, the CG’s SIS conducted an intensive operational tour lasting over 7 hours, revealing a criminal operation where oil well-heads were vandalized. Rubber and galvanized metal pipes were used to divert crude oil to a locally constructed refinery equipped with a cooking oven, storage tanks, and reservoirs.

HE stated his disappointment with those involved in these illegal activities despite the ongoing efforts by Security Agencies to combat such crimes.

The squad, since its inception, has made significant strides in combating crude oil theft nationwide, thanks to the support of the public in providing credible intelligence.

The fight against illegal activities related to petroleum products will continue, with arrests and prosecutions planned for those caught in the act, along with their backers, who will face the full force of the law.

Despite numerous crackdowns on illegal bunkering sites and the arrest and prosecution of suspects, many continue to engage in these activities. The public’s cooperation is crucial in providing actionable intelligence to aid in successful operations against oil theft.

During the operation, various items were seized, including a Red RWD 5200 Maxmech Gasoline Generator, a yellow Robin pumping machine, hoses, galvanized metal pipes, sacks for AGO and DPK, cellophane bags, head flashlights, batteries, and a plier.
