A Special Occasion for Ibietan’s Book: Cyber Politics

In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday, April 19, 2024, top political figures and intellectuals gathered for a unique event dedicated to the book “Cyber Politics” by Omoniyi Ibietan from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.

The special reading coincided with Ibietan’s birthday and attracted renowned individuals and academics who praised the book’s content.

Speaking on the book, Aminu Maida, Ph.D, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, highlighted the significance of understanding the evolving dynamics of voter demographics, particularly in the digital era. He commended Ibietan’s use of established theoretical frameworks to analyze the impact of social media on modern politics.

Further endorsing the book, the NCC CEO emphasized the innovative Channel-Factor Model proposed in the book, which he described as a groundbreaking approach to political communication in Africa.

Prof. Chinyere Stella Okuna, the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria and Deputy VC of Paul University, Akwa, Anambra State, lauded Ibietan’s work as a valuable resource for studying the intersection of politics, social media, and voter behavior.

Similarly, Prof. Peter Esuh, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Uyo, praised Ibietan’s scholarly prowess and activism, endorsing the book as a must-read.

Adding to the accolades, Prof. Umaru A. Pate, Professor of Media and Society and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, recommended the book as essential reading for students of communication studies and political science, emphasizing its relevance in understanding the impact of social media on Nigerian politics.

The quality of the book’s content, its theoretical foundation, and its contextual validity were also highlighted as key strengths by Prof. Pate.
