IBEDC Affirms Inability to Alter New Electricity Tariff

In Ilorin, Kwara State, the Regional Head of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, Engr Toyin Akinyosoye, stated that the new electricity billing tariff of 225/KWh for Band A customers is beyond any Disco’s modification capacity.

Amidst criticisms of the increased tariff juxtaposed with inadequate power supply nationwide, concerns have been raised.

During a meeting with the state Commissioner for Energy, Engr Abdulazeez Kola Abdulganiy, in Ilorin, the IBEDC’s regional head urged customers to embrace the development positively.

Toyin mentioned that the new tariff will be immediately effective for prepaid meter users, while postpaid meter users will witness the change in the subsequent billing cycles.

Due to network challenges, power supply allocation is currently restricted, resulting in several feeders being downgraded as a consequence of low power supply. Customers can anticipate upgrades once power allocations improve.

Prior to this, the state energy commissioner emphasized the need for IBEDC to fairly bill customers and government establishments like hospitals. He emphasized the state government’s consistent support through timely payment of government facilities’ electricity bills, installation of feeder lines, and provision of transformers and other electrical resources to improve electricity accessibility for various communities.
