Housewife Seeks Divorce Due to Husband’s Failure to Practice Islam Properly

An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, received a request from Khadijat Mustapha, a housewife, to end her twenty-four-year marriage to Mahmuda Adamu. She cited lack of love and affection as the grounds for seeking divorce.

Mustapha explained that she and Adamu got married in 2000 following Islamic laws and have five children together. She further mentioned that her husband accused her of adultery, threatened her life, and physically abused her over minor issues.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, she stated, “My husband does not fulfill the obligations of a Muslim in terms of prayer, and our relationship lacks love. I am requesting for the marriage to be dissolved by the court.”

On the other hand, Adamu expressed his desire to reconcile with his wife, emphasizing his love for her and requesting time to resolve their issues.

The case was adjourned by Judge Mohammed Wakili until May 6 to allow the couple to attempt to reconcile and provide an update to the court. (NAN)
