Heavy Flooding Impacts Federal University of Lafia, Disrupts Classes

Extensive flooding has struck the Federal University of Lafia due to continuous heavy rainfall in Nasarawa State.

Students found themselves unable to reach their classes as floodwaters submerged lecture halls, leaving them stranded at the school gate.

A student named Mr. Felix urged swift action from the school management to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He highlighted the impact of heavy rains on their academic routine and called for measures to avoid future disruptions.

Concerns were raised about the campus infrastructure in flood-prone areas, prompting a call for government intervention to address the recurring flooding issue.

The Nasarawa State Government has initiated measures to minimize the impact of floods on tertiary institutions in the state.

Commissioner Margaret Elayo inspected the flooded multi-purpose hall at the Faculty of Arts, reassuring the university of government support and urging students to remain patient as solutions were being pursued.

Efforts to assess and address the damage caused by flooding in various lecture halls, including those in the Faculties of Science, Social Sciences, and Visual and Creative Arts, were undertaken by the commissioner and her team.

Her visit aimed to gather firsthand information and facilitate cooperation with the state emergency management agency to expedite the resumption of normal academic activities at the university.

This proactive approach follows predictions by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency of increased flooding in Nasarawa and other states during the current rainy season.
