Gunmen demand N50m ransom for abducted medical students, threaten to kill them

For the release of 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, as well as a House Officer, who were kidnapped, gunmen have requested a ransom of N50 million.

The abduction of the medical students took place on Thursday night along Otukpo-Enugu Highway in Benue State.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident, and the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FCMDS) reportedly disclosed the full names of the abducted students on Friday night.

According to SP. Catherine Anene, the Benue Police Command Spokesperson, the students were traveling in two buses when they were intercepted by criminals after Otukpo town and subsequently taken to an undisclosed location.

One of the students, Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley, took to social media on Saturday to raise awareness about their situation. In his post, Kingsley mentioned that they had not eaten for two days and appealed to the government and families of the victims to secure their prompt release.

“We were heading to a convention in Enugu when we were abducted. They are demanding N50 million for the release of the 20 medical students,” Kingsley stated in his plea for help. He also provided a contact number for coordinating the funds.

“We are in urgent need of assistance as they have threatened to start killing us tomorrow,” expressed Kingsley.
