Governor Abiodun: Nigeria’s Global Appeal and Economic Progress

Highlighting the positive impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led policies, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun emphasized the growing sellability of Nigeria as a brand on the global stage. He stressed the importance for public relations specialists to promote Nigeria’s renewed hope agenda worldwide to attract investments that would boost the real sector of the economy.

Speaking at the inaugural Nigeria Public Relations Week themed “Leveraging Public Relations As A Critical Asset For Nigeria’s Economic And Reputation Renaissance” held in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun, now the Patron of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, urged practitioners to showcase the potentials of Ogun State through their expertise.

Emphasizing the significance of promoting Nigeria’s positive image, the governor encouraged active participation from all citizens in this endeavor. He highlighted the essential role of public relations in driving development and sustainable growth, citing recent successful monetary policies implemented by the CBN Governor, Mr. Yemi Cardoso.

Governor Abiodun commended the Federal Government’s steps towards revamping the Nigerian macroeconomy, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, which have yielded positive outcomes such as the strengthening local currency.

Describing public relations as a critical communication tool for fostering confidence and engaging with the public, the governor underscored its importance for responsive governance aimed at building a dynamic economy and promoting sustainable growth.

He highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, ease of doing business, healthcare, housing, and security, showcasing Ogun State as a preferred destination for investment and a rapidly growing economy in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Muhammed Idris, emphasized the power of effective communication in celebrating achievements, addressing challenges, and charting a new path forward for Nigeria. He called for efforts to combat quackery in the profession and restore trust in public communication.

Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, stressed the role of public relations in managing reputation and perception, highlighting its significance in organizational and governmental success. He praised Ogun State’s hosting of the event and Governor Abiodun’s impactful contributions to the state’s development.

In recognition of his achievements, Governor Abiodun was appointed as a patron of the institute and generously donated a new bus and a modern secretariat to the Ogun branch, further solidifying his commitment to advancing public relations in the region.
