Government will take stern action against those threatening Nigeria’s unity

President Bola Tinubu has issued a warning to individuals who challenge Nigeria’s sovereignty and security, stating that they will face severe consequences.

He emphasized the government’s progress in combating banditry and kidnapping through enhanced campaigns supported by intelligence gathering initiatives.

During a meeting at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu met with leaders of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, where he reiterated his firm stance against threats to Nigeria’s unity.

The delegation, led by Afenifere’s leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Oba Olu Falae, and other prominent figures, engaged in discussions about the country’s security challenges.

Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, disclosed the details of the meeting in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu receives leaders of Afenifere, emphasizing the government’s commitment to achieving economic security through a fair system for all Nigerians.’

Addressing the security concerns, Tinubu reaffirmed that individuals who challenge Nigeria’s sovereignty will face severe consequences.

Tinubu’s statement comes in the aftermath of Yoruba Nation activists, who, dressed in military attire and armed with weapons, attempted to raise the Yoruba Nation flag at the Oyo State Government Secretariat.

The Yoruba Nation advocates are pushing for the secession of the Yoruba people from Nigeria, citing inadequate protection of their interests within the federal structure.

Tinubu, however, asserted the government’s commitment to maintaining Nigeria’s unity.

Emphasizing his unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and democratic principles, Tinubu highlighted the government’s efforts in combating terrorism and securing the nation.

He accentuated the importance of economic stability in achieving broader national objectives before outlining various initiatives aimed at enhancing citizens’ economic welfare.

Tinubu stressed the significance of education as a tool to combat poverty and outlined plans to provide financial support to empower the youth.

He assured the Yoruba leaders of the government’s focus on implementing consumer credit schemes and unemployment allowances to address economic challenges and reduce unemployment rates.

Tinubu concluded by expressing gratitude for the delegation’s support and prayers and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Nigeria.

In his remarks, Oba Olu Falae praised Tinubu for his strong leadership and ongoing infrastructure projects, urging him to uphold fairness and equity in governance.

The monarch conveyed the elders’ expectations for Tinubu to lead with integrity and courage, emphasizing their unwavering support for his efforts to transform Nigeria.
