Government Secures Release of Kidnapped Victims Without Ransom

The Federal Government has successfully freed numerous kidnapped individuals in the country without giving in to ransom demands, according to the National Security Adviser to the president, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Speaking at the combined convocation lecture of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Ribadu highlighted the government’s achievements in addressing security challenges, stating that under the current administration, there have been no organized terrorist attacks. He also noted the improved security of previously unsafe roads for travelers.

Delivering a paper titled “Navigating the Maze: Addressing Multi-Dimensional Insecurity Challenges in Northern Nigeria,” Ribadu revealed that over a thousand individuals, including villagers held captive for years, have been freed without ransom. He cited successful operations that secured the release of abducted students and school children.

Expressing concern about the high poverty rates in Northern Nigeria, particularly in the Northwestern states, Ribadu pointed out that the region’s poverty level exceeded the national average in 2019. He emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies to combat insecurity and poverty, highlighting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Addressing the challenges of unemployment and illegal arms trafficking, Ribadu stressed the importance of targeted interventions and reforms to promote peace and stability in the region. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to appoint northerners to key security positions to address security issues effectively.

In discussing the government’s approach to tackling insecurities, Ribadu mentioned ongoing trials of terrorism suspects and military operations targeting insurgent groups like Boko Haram and Bandits in Northern Nigeria.
