Government in Nasarawa prohibits ethnic vigilante groups

In Nasarawa State, the Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has taken action to ban all ethnic vigilante groups and similar organizations as advised by the State Security Council.

Through an Executive Order, the Governor has deemed groups like Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya Nomad Group, Bassa Vigilante, and Eggon Vigilante as unlawful within the state.

This Executive Order extends to any group associated with these vigilante groups that operate under the guise of providing security. This prohibition also includes any group using arms to maintain security among ethnic communities in Nasarawa State.

Using his authority under Section 97A of the penal code, Governor Sule highlighted the threat posed by these groups to the state’s governance.

According to the proscription issued on April 15, affected groups must hand over all weapons and uniforms to the state’s Commissioner of Police within a two-week period.
