Gov Oborevwori’s Directive on Delta LG Election: Say No to Candidate Imposition

The upcoming local government council elections in Delta State must not witness any cases of candidate imposition, as emphasized by Governor Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

During the PDP Delta Central Stakeholders’ meeting at his Osubi country home, Governor Oborevwori made it clear that the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, will soon release a timetable for the elections.

He stressed, “Only candidates who are popular among the people and approved by all stakeholders will be selected as the party’s candidates.

“There will be no room for candidates to sneak in through the back door.

“The emergence of candidates must be a collective decision at the ward level, ensuring they are popular and widely accepted.

“Consensus on candidates is key for a smooth primary election process.

“Delta State stands strong in Nigeria. The local government elections will be conducted very soon.

“As our party’s State Chairman mentioned, DSIEC is the authority in charge. They will announce the timetable after meeting with the parties,” he explained.

Prior to this, the Governor expressed gratitude to party leaders for their support and vote of confidence in his leadership and administration.

“I will not let down the people of Delta. PDP and Delta State are synonymous, and the harmony in our state is distinctive from other regions.

“There are no power struggles or conflicts in Delta. All is well, and our citizens are content,” he added.

Meanwhile, the State Party Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Esiso, highlighted the obligation of district leaders to uphold support for the Oborevwori-led administration.

He noted that with the conclusion of the previous executives’ tenure at wards and local government areas, Caretaker Committees have been established to operate for three months.
