FRSC Reports Evacuation of Four Bodies from Eleme Tanker Explosion Scene

Following the fire incident along the Eleme-axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, has confirmed the retrieval of four deceased individuals from the site.

Corps Commander Christopher Kuje, the Sector Commander of the state’s FRSC command, disclosed that the bodies have been transferred to the Military Hospital for further processing.

In an interview with NewsNow, Kuje mentioned that a total of 60 vehicles were impacted by the fire outbreak.

According to Kuje, “We found four bodies at the scene that we were able to evacuate to the military hospital. Additionally, about sixty vehicles were severely damaged by the fire.”

Kuje further explained, “The intensity of the blaze left the bodies unrecognizable, necessitating the use of body bags for transportation to the hospital.”

He clarified, “We can confirm those we retrieved on the ground. We are not speculating on unverified numbers. The exact figure we found has been moved to the military hospital in Port Harcourt.”

Furthermore, FRSC has initiated the process of removing the affected vehicles to alleviate the traffic congestion resulting from the incident.

Kuje mentioned, “We managed traffic diversions to ease congestion and utilized Indorama’s crane to clear heavy-duty trucks and tankers from the area.”

He added, “Currently, we are using trucks to relocate smaller vehicles to a secure location in Eliozu.”
