Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Reacts to Claim of Igbo Paternity

Reacting for the first time to the claim of his Igbo paternity, former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed amusement, stating that such insinuation simply elicits laughter.

During a meeting with the leadership of Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association in Lagos State, Obasanjo emphasized the importance of unity in Nigeria, affirming that all citizens have a stake in the country.

In the past, there were assertions that Obasanjo’s father hailed from Anambra State, an Igbo-dominated region.

Regarding the allegations, Obasanjo, known for his minimal response, simply quipped, “It just makes me laugh.”

Discussing the purpose of the meeting, Obasanjo mentioned the group’s initiative to establish the Owerri Central Market as a pioneering endeavor in the country.

He expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the historical significance of the market and the potential it holds for economic growth.

Furthermore, Obasanjo reiterated his belief in national unity, stating emphatically that no individual should be forcefully displaced from any part of Nigeria.

The group’s spokesperson, Chief Emeka Emmanuel, conveyed their commitment to supporting the development of the market and the nation as a whole, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship as key drivers of progress.

Emmanuel also sought Obasanjo’s assistance in realizing an international market that could provide opportunities for the unemployed populace.

He highlighted the importance of financial support from Obasanjo to enable their members to secure shops and spaces within the market premises.
