Former Napoli Striker Antonio Floro Flores Criticizes Napoli Fans for Comparing Osimhen to Club Legend

Expressing his concern, Antonio Floro Flores, a former Napoli striker with over 67 appearances for the club, cautioned fans about getting too attached to certain players.

In particular, the 40-year-old pointed out the quickness with which the supporters and pundits have drawn comparisons between Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with Marco van Basten and Diego Maradona, respectively.

Both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia played pivotal roles in Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season, ending a 33-year wait for the title.

However, Napoli has struggled to replicate the same level of success in the current season.

During an appearance on La Domenica Azzurra on OttoChannel-channel 16, Flores remarked, “It is important for fans to be present at the stadium. I disagree with those advocating abandonment.

“Napoli still requires the backing of its fans at this stage. The significance of the shirt should always be acknowledged, and it might be wise in the future to avoid excessive attachment to specific players.

“Following the Scudetto win, there was a rush to liken Kvaratskhelia to Maradona and Osimhen to Van Basten… Maintaining balance is crucial.”

Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in 2020, seems poised to depart the club at the end of the current season, with several top European clubs vying for his services.
