Former Military Head of State, Babangida, Says Reconciliation Efforts after Civil War Have Had Limited Impact

According to General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), the former Military Head of State of Nigeria, the efforts to reconcile Nigerians after the civil war have seen limited impact.

In an interview with Channels Television, Babangida praised certain initiatives, such as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the unity schools, but he attributed the limited impact to authorities not consistently pushing for the actualization of the reconciliation of Nigerians.

He commented,

“For example, the NYSC, unity schools.. I think we didn’t push it hard.

“We should have pushed all those hard so that people from different parts of the country can say that we met at unity schools together”.
