Former Customary Court President Killed in Makurdi at 72

Mrs. Margaret Igbeta, a former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, was found dead in her home on Wantor Kwange Street in the Makurdi metropolis.

The 72-year-old Igbeta was discovered in one of her rooms, lying in a pool of blood on Thursday night.

Reports on Friday revealed that her assassination was carried out by unidentified assailants, leaving her blood strewn throughout her house.

At present, security agents have not yet identified her assassins. However, the Benue State Police Command has ordered the evacuation of her body from the residence.

The residence of the slain judge is situated opposite the Benue State University College of Medicine, along Gboko road, Makurdi.

Upon hearing the news of her death, sympathizers flocked to the premises to catch a glimpse of her body.

A police officer in Makurdi, speaking to select journalists, confirmed her death and stated that the condition of the corpse suggests that the killing might have occurred earlier than reported.

“Yes, it’s true. Yesterday, Thursday, her lifeless body was discovered in her house, but the corpse did not appear to be in good condition anymore, which indicates that it could not have happened yesterday; maybe it took place the day before yesterday, Wednesday.”
