Reports indicate that Issa Diop, a 26-year-old Fulham defender, has been taken into custody by the police in Toulouse, France, on allegations of repeatedly threatening his former partner with death.

According to regional news outlet La Depeche du Midi, Diop was apprehended at the Pullman Hotel in Toulouse on Sunday evening around 8pm.

Details from the French media suggest that Diop and his 29-year-old ex-partner are undergoing a contentious divorce, leading to heated disputes between them.

Allegedly, Diop’s former partner has pushed for substantial financial compensation in the divorce, which the ex-West Ham star has been reluctant to provide.

It has been claimed that Diop made threatening remarks about the possibility of ‘definitely getting rid of her,’ leading to formal complaints filed against him last week.

Furthermore, it is alleged that law enforcement authorities had to wait for Diop to leave his current residence in London before making the arrest.

Diop reportedly downplayed the seriousness of his threats, although acknowledging some of the accusations against him, as per the French newspaper.

A local police spokesman mentioned to The Sun that Diop, formerly with Toulouse, is currently in custody at the city’s Central Police Commisionerate.

Diop, who signed a five-year contract with Fulham in the previous summer for £15 million after departing from West Ham, made 25 Premier League appearances last season, contributing to the team’s 10th-place finish.

Fulham has responded to the situation by stating, ‘We are aware of reports from France regarding Issa Diop. We are currently working with the player’s representatives to ascertain the facts.’
