First steps towards the end of the Ukraine War: the keys to the call between Putin and Trump

After speculating for weeks, the expected called between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin was finally produced to study the path that can lead to the end of the Ukraine War, precisely without having its president Zelenski. As a result of the conversation, Russia has accepted a limited fire in energy and infrastructure in Ukraine, as confirmed by the White House.

A first cessation and negotiations on the way

The official White House statement defines conversation as “technical negotiations” to discuss a high maritime fire in the Black Sea and work towards a total cessation of hostilities and permanent peace. They do not want to waste time and will start them immediately in the Middle East.

The Kremlin also confirmed that Putin has issued orders to implement a 30 -day fire in the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, although it made it clear that numerous conditions and demands of Moscow persist before advancing in a total cessation of hostilities.

Russia’s demands and the challenge of a final agreement

However, it will not be easy to content Putin. The Russian statement detailed a series of points that, according to Kremlin, require more attention. Among them, the need for “effective control” on any high fire, the arrest of the mobilization of Ukrainian troops and the cessation of the supply of weapons and military assistance by Western countries.

Putin also mentioned his willingness to negotiate an exchange of prisoners, proposing the release of 175 combatants of each side and, as a gesture of goodwill, the additional delivery of 23 seriously injured Ukrainian soldiers.

A new horizon in relations between the USA and Russia

Beyond the conflict in Ukraine, the conversation between Putin and Trump addressed the possibility of improving bilateral relations between Russia and the United States. Both leaders agreed that there is great potential for economic agreements and geopolitical stability once peace is reached.

In addition, strategic issues such as security in the Middle East and the Red Sea were discussed, as well as the need to curb the proliferation of strategic weapons. Both leaders agreed that Iran should not represent a threat to Israel.

Hockey parties between the US and Russia

And not only of geopolitical issues were discussed, the Russian statement mentions that Putin and Trump talked about the possibility of organizing hockey matches between American NHL players and Russian KHL, as a symbol of cooperation and distension between the two countries. An idea that comes out of the Russian president, aware of what Trump likes these extravagant proposals.
