Exploitation of minors increases in the world, according to the United Nations

The United Nations warns that trafficking in minors has skyrocketed in the world. According to the latest report prepared by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the percentage of minors who are victims of trafficking –21st century slavery– has increased since the pandemic from 31 to 38%.

The Women and girls continue to be the main affected worldwidewho are also subjected to sexual exploitation in 60% of cases. Men are – more frequently – recruited for forced labor, begging or crime.

Trafficking in unaccompanied minors in Europe

Child exploitation is also growing in Europe, according to the UN in this document, due to the vulnerability of unaccompanied minors on migratory routes.

This new form of slavery -which according to the United Nations affects all countries on the planet- has skyrocketed due to the increase in global poverty, wars and the devastating effects of climate change.
