Ex-Imo governor, Ihedioha, resigns from PDP

Emeka Ihedioha, the former governor of Imo State, has officially stepped down from his membership with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter directed to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward of Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, Ihedioha explained his decision was due to a misalignment between his personal beliefs and the direction the main opposition party is currently taking.

Despite resigning from the PDP, Ihedioha reiterated his commitment to promoting democracy and good governance in the nation, a cause he has steadfastly championed over the years.

Having been an active member of the party since its inception in 1998, Ihedioha highlighted his significant contributions to the growth and progress of the PDP.

However, the former governor expressed disappointment with recent developments within the PDP, indicating a departure from its foundational principles.

He raised concerns about the party’s failure to implement internal reforms, adhere to its own regulations, and effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Expressing his dilemma, Ihedioha stated, “The recent trajectory of the party contradicts my personal convictions. Despite my efforts to advise, the party seems unable to reform internally, follow its rules, or provide credible opposition to the APC.”

Consequently, he felt compelled to tender his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.

While acknowledging the difficulty of his decision, Ihedioha expressed confidence that it was the right course of action. He assured that despite his departure, he remains committed to contributing towards strengthening democracy and promoting good governance in Nigeria.
