Enforcement of sit-at-home order defies suspension as masquerades emerge in Nsukka

Fear continues to grip residents in the South East despite the suspension of the sit-at-home order every Monday.

Today, on August 30, the streets in major areas of the South East remain deserted.

Additionally, there have been sightings of masquerades parading the streets in order to discourage people from engaging in their usual activities.

These masquerades have reportedly issued threats, warning that individuals caught going out will face flogging.

The sit-at-home order was initially declared in protest of the arrest of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Although it was later suspended, residents express concerns that the suspension is merely a formality as they fear potential attacks if they open their shops or offices.
