18-Year-Old Girl Dies from Electrocution after Lightning Strikes Her Home While Charging Phone

Tragically, a young girl lost her life after being electrocuted when lightning struck her home while she was charging her mobile phone.

Radja Ferreira de Oliveira was using her phone, which was plugged into the main socket at her residence in Santarem, Brazil, when it was hit by lightning during the early hours of Sunday, August 29.

At the time of the lightning strike, the 18-year-old was using her mobile phone and received a severe electric shock, causing her to lose consciousness.

Although emergency services were called, by the time paramedics arrived at the scene, her family had already administered first aid and transported her to the hospital.

Regrettably, Radja was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

She became the third person to be electrocuted in the Brazilian state of Para last week.

Another victim, Semeao Tavares, was on a phone call in Curua when he was struck by lightning during a separate storm on August 25. Although medics reached him while he was still alive, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Councillor Raimundo Brito, of the Progressistas political party, also suffered an electric shock during the same storm while plucking a duck in his home in Macura. Brito managed to call for help and was taken to the local health center, where he received treatment for his injuries.

Following Radja’s tragic death, experts have once again emphasized the dangers of using a mobile phone while it is being charged.
