Encounter in Aba: Deceased Suspect Found After Clash Between Hoodlums and Security Operatives


In Aba on Monday, a confrontation involving a team of police officers and Nigerian Army personnel occurred during an exchange of gunfire with hoodlums.

A statement released by the Abia State Police Command on Monday evening revealed that members of Operation Crush, while on patrol in Aba, Abia State, noticed vehicles suspected of transporting armed individuals heading towards the Port Harcourt express road.

The statement, signed by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, mentioned that the patrol team engaged the hoodlums around Umuode village, leading to a gunfight.

ASP Chinaka stated in the release that the hoodlums were overwhelmed, forcing them to abandon their vehicles and flee, some sustaining gunshot wounds.

She added: “A Sienna vehicle with traces of blood was found at the scene. Additionally, a deserted Toyota Highlander SUV containing the body of an unidentified suspect was discovered at Adanegbuazu along Mbamaonyeukwu Hotel Road in Umuode, Aba. The body has been taken to a morgue, and investigations are ongoing.”

The command urged the public to promptly report any suspicious behavior or people with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.
