Eight children die in a mass shooting in Louisiana (United States)

Eight children between one and fourteen years old have died in a mass shooting that took place early this Sunday in the city of Shreveport, in the southern state of Louisiana, according to the EFE agency.

For the moment, the Police of this town have classified the event as a “domestic altercation.” For his part, the police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon has reported that the suspect fled, but was eventually killed by several officers during the chase.

The latest information indicates that the suspect was a relative of one of the victims: “We believe that he is the only individual who fired shots,” the spokesperson said. The only survivors of the shooting are two adult women, one of them with serious injuries that put her life in danger, according to local media reports.

Perhaps it is the most tragic situation we have ever experienced.

The crime scene is “extensive” and encompasses about three homes in the Cedar Grove neighborhood, Bordelon said, warning that the investigation is in its early stages and that all information is preliminary.

“This is a tragic situation, perhaps the most tragic situation we have ever experienced,” said Tom Arceneaux, mayor of this northwestern Louisiana city of about 180,000 inhabitants. “It’s a terrible morning.”
