EFCC Withdraws Lawsuit Against Yahaya Bello in Appeal Court Over Alleged Fraud

In a recent development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has opted to retract its application in the Court of Appeal concerning the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The EFCC cited the recent decision made by the Kogi State High Court as the basis for this withdrawal.

A court application was filed at the Court of Appeal Abuja judicial division on Tuesday by J. S. Okutepa, SAN, and others representing the Commission, confirming this decision.

According to the EFCC, the matter under appeal had already been resolved by Justice Jamil J. of the Kogi High Court on April 17, 2024.

Hence, the EFCC requested the court to dismiss the appeal, as it was filed late and deemed incompetent.

Reports from NewsNow revealed that the EFCC has intensified efforts to prosecute Yahaya Bello for allegedly embezzling public funds during his tenure as Kogi State Governor.

Furthermore, Bello is currently wanted by the EFCC for allegedly siphoning approximately N80 billion from the state’s treasury.
