Edwin Clark: Buhari’s Alleged Manipulation of APC Leadership

Chief Edwin Clark, the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, has raised concerns about the impunity enjoyed by politicians facing corruption allegations in Nigeria.

Clark accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of handpicking Abdullahi Adamu, a former Nasarawa State Governor with pending corruption charges from his tenure, as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

He highlighted the lack of progress on cases involving 15 ex-governors and ministers under Nuhu Ribadu’s tenure as EFCC chairman.

“In 2007, over 15 former governors and ministers faced charges during Ribadu’s EFCC leadership. Some had cases in Lagos, Abuja, and other places. However, these cases mysteriously stalled,” he stated during an Arise TV interview.

Clark cited Abdullahi Adamu as an example, alleging embezzlement of N15 billion during his time as Nasarawa State governor. Despite facing charges, Adamu later won a Senate seat and was eventually appointed APC National Chairman by Buhari.

“There are numerous such cases within the APC where individuals seemingly transition from alleged criminals to anti-corruption advocates without accountability,” Clark lamented.
