Edo State Assembly Speaker Takes Action against Alleged Impeachment Plot, Suspends Three Members

Suspending three members of the Edo State House of Assembly, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku took action on Monday due to an alleged plot aiming to impeach him and other Principal Officers Council, POC.

At the plenary session, the suspended lawmakers included two from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suspended members are Okogbe Ojeneh Donald (PDP, Akoko-Edo II), Addeh Emankhu Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I), and Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionnwon II).

Accusing the trio of scheming to alter the house leadership, Agbebaku announced their indefinite suspension, claiming they were influenced by external sources to disrupt the house’s operations.

Allegedly, unknown individuals brought traditional healers into the assembly complex in the middle of the night on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, performing rituals and placing charms to incite chaos.

The suspension process caused tension in the house, with the affected lawmakers protesting against the Speaker’s decision.

During a heated session, the three suspended members vocally objected, demanding a voting process before any suspension could be implemented.

Trailing the commotion, the Speaker abruptly adjourned the plenary session.
