Edo Speaker Offers Apology for Chaotic Session Following Suspension of Members

Following a tumultuous plenary session where three lawmakers were suspended, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, issued a sincere apology to the House staff for the commotion that ensued.

The Speaker’s decision to suspend the lawmakers was based on allegations that they were involved in a plot to impeach him and other principal officers.

Agbebaku, who imposed an indefinite suspension on the lawmakers, also accused them of being influenced by external entities to disrupt proceedings and overthrow the House leadership. He further claimed that the suspended members engaged in occult practices and incantations within the House premises.

The suspended legislators comprised two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC), namely Okogbe Donald (PDP, Akoko-Edo II), Addeh Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I), and Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionnwon II).

Expressing regret over the chaotic situation, the Speaker stated, “I want to extend my apologies to the dedicated staff of this Assembly for the events that transpired during yesterday’s session. The intention was never to disrupt the harmony within the House.

“I am mindful that this may not be the first instance of such occurrences here.

“We assure you that we will take measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. This apology reflects the high regard we have for each of you.”
