Edo Assembly Speaker Issues Apology to Staff Following Suspension of Three Lawmakers

Showing remorse for the events that unfolded during Monday’s plenary session, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, extended a sincere apology to the Assembly staff. The incident involved the suspension of three lawmakers, which resulted in chaos and disruptions.

As previously reported, the Speaker took disciplinary action by suspending the three legislators who were allegedly involved in a plot to impeach him and other key officers. Agbebaku went on to level accusations against the lawmakers, claiming they were swayed by external influences to sow discord and orchestrate the removal of the House leadership. He also alleged that the suspended members engaged in occult practices within the House premises.

The affected lawmakers hail from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The suspended members are Okogbe Donald (PDP, Akoko-Edo II), Addeh Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I), and Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionnwon II).

During his address, the Speaker expressed regret over the commotion, stating, “I wish to offer my apologies to the dedicated staff of this Assembly for the events that transpired during the recent plenary session. Our objective was never to incite unrest within the House.”

He added, “I understand that you may have previously encountered similar situations. I want to assure you that we are committed to preventing a recurrence of such incidents. This apology is a reflection of our high regard for you all.”
