In preparation for the Easter festivities, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom State has made significant deployments to ensure road safety. A total of 662 personnel, supported by 10 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and one tow truck, have been tasked with enhancing visibility and reducing the likelihood of road accidents.

Mr. Matthew Olonisaye, the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, emphasized the importance of cautious driving and adherence to traffic regulations to safeguard lives during the holiday period. The deployed personnel and resources are positioned to provide swift response to emergencies and facilitate the quick clearance of obstructions on the highways.

Olonisaye outlined the strategic objectives behind the deployment, stating, “The goal is to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries by five percent, promote traffic flow, and support business activities in Akwa Ibom State. Our focus is on ensuring safety and efficiency on the roads.”

As part of the operational plan, 662 operatives, including Special Marshals, have been strategically stationed along major routes for traffic management. Additionally, 10 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and a tow truck have been allocated to key locations to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Warning against reckless behaviors such as dangerous driving, illegal overtaking, speeding, and overloading, the sector commander reminded motorists of the irreplaceable nature of life. He urged road users to prioritize safety, not only for themselves but also for their families and loved ones eagerly awaiting their return.

Furthermore, all drivers and pedestrians were urged to observe traffic rules, respect road signs, maintain appropriate speeds, and promptly report incidents or emergencies to the FRSC for timely assistance.
