Delta State Governor Vows to Finish Ongoing Projects

Assuring the people of Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reiterated his administration’s determination to complete all ongoing projects in the state. He has also pledged to introduce new projects to ensure sustainable development.

A statement by his spokesperson, Festus Ahon, conveyed the governor’s commitment during his inspection of the construction of a storm drainage channel from Owa-Alero and its environs through Owa-Alizomor and Owa-Ofie to link Iyi-Amah stream in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state.

Expressing contentment with the quality and progress of the work, Governor Oborevwori emphasized his administration’s zero tolerance for project abandonment.

“We have been scrutinizing ongoing projects in the past few days to take advantage of the dry season and assess which projects can be completed. It’s important to physically inspect the progress rather than relying solely on paperwork. I am truly impressed with what has been achieved so far,” said the governor.

Referring to the storm drainage construction from Owa-Alero to Iyi-Ama stream, the governor expressed satisfaction with the work done by the contractor, CCECC. He also mentioned the upcoming commencement of the second phase of the Warri storm drainage project.

Highlighting the significance of the stormwater drainage in addressing flood issues, Governor Oborevwori emphasized, “The completion of this project is crucial to resolving floodwater problems in this area.”

He further revealed, “About 75% of the major work has been accomplished. According to the contractor, the remaining 25% will be finished by April.”

Earlier in April, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa had disclosed that the construction of the storm drainage channel aimed to channel flood water from Boji-Boji through Owa-Ekei and Owa-Alero to the river across Owa-Office, and noted that the project has achieved a 50 percent completion rate.
