Deeper Parliamentary cooperation with Serbia urged by Akpabio

A call for enhanced parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Nigeria was made by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

This appeal was raised during a meeting with the President of the Serbian Parliament, Ms Ana Brnabic in London on Wednesday.

Both leaders engaged in extensive discussions regarding matters of mutual interest to their respective nations and ways to bolster parliamentary collaborations between Serbia and Nigeria, as stated in a release by the Senate President’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.

The statement mentioned that the meeting, initiated by Ms. Brnabic, also touched on issues concerning the International Parliamentary Union (IPU). Plans were laid for further meetings between the two parliamentarians. Additionally, the Serbian lawmaker formally invited Nigeria’s Senate President to visit Serbia, with the date yet to be announced.

Senator Akpabio was recently elected into the Executive Committee of the IPU, where he has been actively involved. Notably, he delivered an impactful speech on the unnecessary violence in Gaza and advocated for a ceasefire during the recent assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Accompanying Akpabio to the meeting were the Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Asuquo Ekpenyong, and Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Cyprian Terseer Heens.
