CP reveals details of mechanic’s arrest for murdering elderly couple in Abuja

An elderly couple residing at Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja fell victim to a grisly murder allegedly committed by a mechanic named Jonathan Marcus.

Marcus, who also worked as a chauffeur for the victims, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and 79-year-old Abiodun Ezekiel, was apprehended by the police and presented among other suspects by the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, in a recent press briefing.

The police initiated an investigation promptly following the incident on March 31, 2024, leading to the arrest of Marcus, who was formerly employed as a driver by the deceased couple.

Law enforcement officers tracked and detained Marcus at his hideout in Obajana, Kogi State.

According to Igweh, the suspect confessed to entering the victims’ home on the day of the crime, where he purportedly murdered them by slashing their throats and then absconded with their mobile phones and ATM cards.

In a separate development, on April 11, 2024, the police arrested two additional suspects for suspected involvement in a homicide case in the Mabushi area of Abuja.

The arrests, carried out by officers from the Mabushi division, ensued following a tip-off about the discreet transportation of the deceased Bilkisu Mohammed’s body.

Igweh elaborated, stating, “The deceased had visited her alleged boyfriend who later traveled to Kano, leaving her in the care of the female suspect. Unfortunately, the female suspect administered unapproved medication to the deceased, resulting in her demise with the male suspect’s involvement.”

The suspects remain in custody, undergoing questioning.

Furthermore, Igweh disclosed that a coordinated operation by the Utako division on April 6, 2024, led to the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to being part of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for various robberies and serious offenses in the FCT.

Recovered from the suspects were four locally-made AK-47 rifles, three homemade cartridge rifles, one English pistol, and a Dane gun, along with three live 7.62mm rounds, one 5.56mm round, and an empty cartridge.

CP Igweh mentioned that all suspects will face charges in court once the investigation concludes.
