Confirmation by Governor El-Rufai: Sanusi has the liberty to live anywhere, including Kano

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, during his visit to Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in Awe community of Nasarawa, confirmed that the former Emir of Kano will be relocating to Lagos from Abuja.

 

The statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Mr. Muyiwa Adekeye stated;

“Governor Nasir El Rufai visited his long- time friend, ideological soul mate and confidante, His Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, as a mark of solidarity over his temporary travails at Awe town in Nasarawa State.

‘’His Highness seems to have taken all that happened in his stride but has reiterated his commitment to enforce his fundamental human rights.

‘’Sanusi II, the 14th Fulani Emir of Kano, manifested a renewed vigour to continue serving humanity in his life- long efforts to expand the frontiers of knowledge and to campaign against unworthy timid ignorance that has shackled Nigeria as a perpetual potentially great nation.”

The statement further revealed that the duo traveled in El Rufai’s car to Abuja, from where the deposed monarch will proceed to Lagos.

Fielding questions from journalists in Awe on Friday March 13, the governor confirmed that a federal capital territory high court has ruled that Sanusi can go anywhere including Kano State.

El-Rufai said;

“As you know the federal high court in Abuja today declared his detention illegal and unconstitutional and his banishment also in violation of the constitution, so he is free.

“He can live anywhere he wants including Kano city, if he wants. But we are on our way to Abuja. It is quite likely that the emir proceeds to Lagos which was his preferred destination from day one.

“From the day he was informed of his deposition, it was his wish to go to Lagos because part of his family is now in Lagos. And by the grace of God we’re on our way to Lagos.”

A statement from Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna also read;

‘’The Governor who drove from Abuja to Awe town, met His Highness in high spirits, demonstrating his usual calm, poise and regal bearing amidst what has befallen in the last four days.”
