Concerns Raised by Islamic Organization on Frequent Jailbreaks

An organization known as the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has strongly criticized prison authorities in the country for the recurring incidents of jailbreaks that are endangering the lives of innocent individuals.

The group has pointed out that the escalating number of jailbreaks is a direct result of the inadequate maintenance of Nigeria’s prisons and has called for immediate actions to address this ongoing issue.

In a statement released by the National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the group emphasized the severe consequences of jailbreaks, stating that they pose a significant threat to both lives and properties.

According to the group, the government and correctional facility officials often make promises to prevent future jailbreaks after each incident, but little to no action is taken until another breakout occurs.

The group expressed dismay over the negligence and incompetence of many officials in ensuring that such incidents are prevented, leading to hundreds of prisoners escaping lawful custody and posing risks to the public.

MMWG has recommended the relocation of Ilorin prison from Okekura within the town to Mahdi on the outskirts of Ilorin, as well as the conversion of the medium security prison at Mahdi into a Maximum Security Prison to accommodate the transfer of inmates from Okekura.

Furthermore, the organization has advocated for similar actions to be taken nationwide, stating that it is inappropriate to have prisons situated in urban centers.

In addition, the MMWG has decried the practice of cross-dressing among certain youths, labeling it as uncivilized behavior that goes against societal norms and values.

The group identified cross-dressers, disobedient individuals, and spouses who fail to protect their partners from harm as examples of those engaging in actions deemed punishable by God.

Blaming the rise of negative behaviors among Nigerian youth on poor parenting, Abdullahi emphasized that individuals who deviate from traditional gender norms are believed to be influenced by malevolent forces and are unlikely to receive divine blessings.
