Concerns Raised by Carlton Palmer Regarding Manchester United Star’s Defensive Abilities Ahead of Euro 2024

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is facing scrutiny from former England international, Carlton Palmer as Gareth Southgate prepares to announce his England squad for the EUROs.

Despite being a key player at Manchester United, Shaw’s career has been plagued by injuries, hindering his ability to consistently perform at his best.

Since joining the club in 2014, Shaw has only managed to feature in over 30 Premier League games in a season once, with this season seeing him make just 12 league appearances.

Having been a part of the England squad since 2014 and playing five games at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Shaw’s abilities as a defender are now being questioned by Palmer.

In an interview with The World Class Stamp Podcast, Palmer expressed his doubts about Shaw’s defensive skills, stating, “I think we [England] have an issue at left-back. I’m not a Luke Shaw fan. I think he’s a good footballer, but he’s a poor defender. Shaw on that side with Maguire, it doesn’t work for me. If Gareth Southgate was sold on Luke Shaw, why did he start Trippier at left-back for the Euros?”
